Weingut Karthäuserhof Ruwer
Christoph Tyrell’s historic Ruwer estate is one of the great names of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. The 19ha of vineyards are based on the famous Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg site, which produces vivid, intense, elegant expressions of Riesling. Ludwig Breiling has made the wines in recent vintages and a very high quality standard has been set. Flavours range from apple, white peach, blackcurrant, citrus and mineral in Kabinett and Spätlese (usually produced in a Trocken or Feinherb version as well) to nectarine, peach and exotic fruits in Auslese and Eiswein. The latter show marvellous richness as well as the same vibrant acidity and long finish seen in all the wines. In any given vintage 4- to 5-star bottlings of Auslese from individual numbered casks can be superb, their purity and class are apparent even when starting out intense and closed. QbA Riesling has decent weight and flavour and a dry Weissburgunder is also made.
