LVMH buys controlling stake in Napa’s Colgin Cellars
Those of you who have got the 10th edition of Wine behind the label will know that for some time, consulting input at COLGIN CELLARS has been supplied by Alain Raynaud of CH. QUINAULT in Saint-Émilion. Quinault has for some time been one of the properties owned by LVMH.
So it may come as no surprise that LVMH has agreed to buy 60% of Colgin Cellars from founder, Ann Colgin, and her husband, Joe Wender, for an undisclosed price.
It marks a further ingress into the Napa Valley following their purchase of NEWTON VINEYARDS for LVMH and its owner, Bernard Arnault, who already controls names such as Krug, Veuve Clicquot, Clos des Lambrays and Château d’Yquem in France, Cape Mentelle in Australia and Cloudy Bay in New Zealand.
Colgin’s Tychson Hill and Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons have developed a cult status since the estate was founded 25 years ago and rank as super 5 star wines in Wine behind the label.
Others include the Cariad Red Blend and IX Estate Red Blend and Syrah wines, which are not far behind in quality
The winery team will still be run by Ann Colgin, Joe Wender and Paul Roberts with Winemaker, Allison Tauziet.
Another top class wine estate falls under the LVMH umbrella – a superb addition to their portfolio.
